Workshops

Capoeira is a cultural art form that is traced back to African slaves in Brazil who practiced it to preserve part of their social traditions and gain self defense skills.  Today, Capoeira includes traditional musical instruments, old and new songs, and eye catching gymnastic moves.  But the central element continues to be the play of two capoeiristas who observe, initiate and react to each others moves.

Group Capoeira Malês conducts workshops in a variety of educational settings where audiences observe and participate in Capoeira play and music that are always popular among students.  At the same time, we share the story of Capoeira and the part it played in the lives of oppressed people.

Our workshops provide physical skill building, increased cultural awareness and lessons in overcoming challenges.  We focus on introduction of the basic movements of Capoeira, Music, Rhythm, History and social interaction.

We provide a variety of workshop experiences from a single one to one-and-a-half hour session to several sessions offered over a period of time.  Prices vary based on venue, number of participants and workshop length.  Our rates for educational and non-profit groups are discounted from our normal commercial rates and are very affordable. Please note that the workshop requires a flat, dry and clean space.  Sufficient space size is important and is based on the number of participants.
